Family Engagement & Truancy
The Family Engagement Coordinator serves as the liaison between the district’s school-based administrators, staff, families, and students. The Family Engagement Coordinator works collaboratively with families, teachers, parents, businesses and community partners to promote a family-friendly school climate and culturally responsive environment for learning.
With a primary focus on student achievement through regular attendance and family involvement, the position serves to:
identify truant and chronically absent students
develop and implement student attendance improvement plans
collaborate with the community on resources and services to support youth and families
improve communication between the schools and students’ families
promote family engagement in their child’s education, and
encourage greater community involvement to foster belonging
SCHOOL LEVEL ENGAGEMENT
The school is a key element of a comprehensive approach to reducing chronic absences. Research consistently finds that family engagement has a direct, positive effect on youth’s achievement and is one of the most accurate predictors of a student’s success in school.
